The closed beta runs on the retail Android client, patched to talk to this server instead of the one that closed in 2022. It is sideloaded rather than installed from a store, and it needs a Groot ID to download.

The beta is closed, which here means the build is behind a Groot ID rather than on an open link. You will be sent to groot.games to sign in and brought straight back to this page.

Any Groot ID works. Pre-registering is not a requirement for the download, though it is how you get told when the world opens properly.

Installing it

  1. 1Use a real Android phone or tablet. Emulators are the one setup that reliably fails here, and the reason is below.
  2. 2Allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps, which Android will offer when you open the file. The setting is per app rather than global on Android 8 and later.
  3. 3Open the downloaded file and install it. It will not replace the Play Store version if you still have one, because it is signed with a different key, so uninstall that first if the install is refused.
  4. 4Launch it. The client finds this server on its own, so there is nothing to type: no address, no port and no login form. It signs itself in, and your Groot ID plays no part past this page.
